Santiago League Round 13: GUG edge CDP by one point

The Regular Season in Santiago League just ended. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most exciting game of round 13 in the Santiago League ended with only one-point defeat of much higher ranked CDP (6-4) to fourth ranked GUG (6-4) 98-97 in the game for the third place. GUG looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Frandy Martinez fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Forward Juan Guerrero (205-93) chipped in 16 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American Paris Bass (203-95, college: Detroit) produced 23 points and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated CDP.
The game in Santiago supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked CPN (7-3) played at the court of 6th ranked Sameji (1-9). CPN smashed Sameji 115-90. Worth to mention a great performance of Victor Liz (193-86) who helped to win the game recording 25 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Tony Mitchell contributed with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks for the winners. Puerto Rican guard Hector Maldonado (185-91) answered with 20 points for Sameji. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. CPN moved-up to second place. Sameji at the other side stay at the bottom position with nine games lost.



Sameji - CPN 90-115

The game in Santiago supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked CPN (7-3) played at the court of 6th ranked Sameji (1-9). CPN smashed Sameji 115-90. CPN dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Sameji's 36. They outrebounded Sameji 54-32 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. CPN players were unselfish on offense dishing 32 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Victor Liz (193-86) who helped to win the game recording 25 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. American forward Tony Mitchell (203-92, college: N.Texas) contributed with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks for the winners. Puerto Rican guard Hector Maldonado (185-91) answered with 20 points and Brahian Mendez added 18 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Sameji. Five CPN and four Sameji players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. CPN moved-up to second place. Sameji at the other side stay at the bottom position with nine games lost.
